Retail Voodoo is Part of the B Corp Family
Retail Voodoo was born from the realization that business leaders can make a dramatic difference on this earth. The core team from Lemley Design Company built Retail Voodoo to become a force for good. Our founder, David Lemley’s a-ha moment happened during the Great Recession. In 2010 he left his firm to lead the revitalization of 3 global brands in one year.
At the end… faced with boundless opportunity to take the reins at many global agencies, Lemley, bolstered by the evidence that conscious capitalism is a powerful business asset, asked Diana Fryc, his former employee and future wife to start Retail Voodoo.
The first brands to call Retail Voodoo were PCC Natural Markets, KIND Healthy Snacks, and Brooks Running.
We have always sought to align ourselves with like-minded companies, so becoming a certified B Corp amplifies our values to other business leaders in the food, beverage and wellness industries. Individually we are making our own impact, but love being part of a community that can influence business for the greater good.
We envision a global economy that uses business as a force for good. This economy is comprised of a new type of corporation – the B Corporation – which is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.
As B Corporations and leaders of this emerging economy, we believe:
- That we must be the change we seek in the world.
- That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place mattered.
- That, through their products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.
To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.
Our motivation?
At a personal level: We want our kids, and the kids of our clients, to know that we did everything we could to try to make the world a better place for them. That we put our attention and resources where it would make a difference:
- We must be the change we seek in the world.
- We conduct our business believing that people and place matter.
- Through products, practices, and profits, our business aspires to do no harm and benefit all.
At a business Level: We want to demonstrate that people who work for us and work with us can trust us. B Corp certification is a tangible and credible way for them to know we are in alignment with what their gut is telling them about us:
- We are walking the talk alongside of them.
- We think big picture and consider people, planet, and profit in all that we do.
- We are persistent, tenacious and in it for the long haul.
So why did we finally do it?
We started the process 4 years ago. Yep, with wide-eyed enthusiasm, we set out to get certified. We had no idea how challenging it would be for our small Limited Liability Company to meet the criteria.
Transparency and commitment to the whole is not new for us, but by formalizing our status as a B Corporation, Retail Voodoo is positioned to deliver on our mission while operating from written guidelines that govern daily actions that prioritize people, purpose, and planet. We believe that this attracts employees who want to participate in making business a force for good.
Everything matters. Using the B Corp guidelines we now we have governing tools and written standards in place to ensure we use the same compass as other brands on this journey. We measure our impact across many dimensions. People, purpose, product, passion, planet, and profits.
We love that B Corp aligns with our mission!
Because, our mission is to help food, beverage, and wellness brands influence popular culture for the betterment of people, planet, and profit.
By providing world-class brand development, brand strategy, and marketing execution to like-minded businesses that provide nutritious, sustainable, ethically-sourced products and provide safety, vision, and economic stability to their people, partners, and vendors, we are helping those intent on making a better world to gain traction and brand relevance to just that. Because we not only believe that business can be a force for good, we believe that they should be.
